The focus of this assistance is encouraging assessment activities that lead to continuous improvement. Using USF Sarasota-Manatee’s Strategic Plan as the framework, USF Sarasota-Manatee assessment activities also align with the strategic plans of the USF System and the State University System of Florida.

Annual assessment plans and reports for all academic programs, including campus-wide general education, core curriculum,and critical thinking, to measure the effectiveness of student learning.

Florida Board of Governors: Academic Learning Compact Requirements
The Florida Board of Governors mandates that all public universities in Florida develop Assessment Plans called Academic Learning Compacts (ALC) for each baccalaureate degree program. The Compacts are meant to identify the expected core student learning outcomes for degree program graduates relative to discipline-specific knowledge and skills, critical thinking skills, and communication skills. It is expected that students will acquire these skills and knowledge if they successfully follow the prescribed course of study in their declared major. The Compacts will describe precisely what students are expected to know and be able to demonstrate upon successful completion of their undergraduate degree program. Additionally, the Compacts must identify the corresponding assessment strategies used to measure student achievement on each of the core student learning outcomes for each degree program.
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools: Assessment Requirements
The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is the recognized regional accrediting body in the eleven U.S. Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) and in Latin America for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees. The Commission on Colleges is the representative body of the College Delegate Assembly and is charged with carrying out the accreditation process.
The institution must identify expected outcomes, assess the extent to which it achieves these outcomes, and provide evidence of improvements based on analysis of the results in each of the following areas:
- Education programs, to include student learning outcomes
- Administrative support services
- Educational support services
- Research within its educational mission
- Community and public service within its educational mission
