You likely already know that eating healthy is great for your body, but did you know it’s extremely helpful for your mind as well? That’s right: the food you eat does more than improve your physical health; it also boosts your ability to retain information and your overall emotional health.
While all those coffees and energy drinks may seem useful when staying up late to study for your next exam, one of the best things you can do to stay mentally focused during school is to eat smart.
What foods are best to eat for a healthy lifestyle?
Eating fruits and vegetables is an easy and delicious way to improve your health. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables is also the best way to get beneficial vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and phytochemicals in food that helps you prevent disease, gives you energy and helps you feel great.
How to Eat Healthy During College
Follow these tips and tricks to eat better while in school:
- Keep extra fruits and veggies in your home, and aim to eat at least five servings of these each day.
- Stay hydrated by drinking at least four 16 oz. bottles of water each day, and even more than that if you are very physically active.
- Be conscious of serving sizes! A protein serving size is about the size of a deck of playing cards.
- Most importantly, try and eat well-balanced meals and snacks. Keep snacks in your home, such as yogurt, fruits, veggies, granola/breakfast bars, rice cakes, popcorn, juice, low-fat milk and whole-grain cereals.
