SARASOTA, Fla. (April 13, 2016) – USFSM and SCF have coordinated to provide upper-level baccalaureate curriculum at the SCF Venice campus. This initiative affords students local access to various USFSM courses by utilizing SCF Venice classroom space, offices and services. SCF provides areas of study leading to the Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree, a university transfer degree.
Among its many benefits, the agreement strengthens what many people know as the “2 + 2 Program” which streamlines the transfer process for college students who complete an A.A. to seamlessly transition to USFSM and pursue a bachelor’s degree. Some students state they want the option of completing a degree at the Venice campus versus traveling to USFSM. USF Sarasota-Manatee currently offers courses in Psychology and Education at the SCF Venice location.
The most recent USFSM student enrollment data indicates that over half of USFSM’s population also attended SCF. “Our continued collaboration with USFSM helps us to fulfill our mutual goal of being an educational hub and destination for our students, and SCF’s mission of providing services where our students live, work and play,” Dr. Carol F. Probstfeld, SCF President, said. SCF graduates receive provisional early acceptance at USFSM.
“State College of Florida continues to be a terrific partner for USF Sarasota-Manatee,” said Dr. Sandra Stone, USF Sarasota-Manatee Regional Chancellor. “By offering classes on the SCF Venice campus, we are able to continue to serve south Sarasota County and be highly visible to SCF students.”
