SARASOTA, Fla. (April 3, 2015) – The USF Sarasota-Manatee (USFSM) Introduction to Beer Science class will host its inaugural food and beer pairing event on April 23 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at USFSM’s Culinary Innovation Lab, 8130 Lakewood Main Street.

“Over the past few years Florida has joined the brewing scene with great success,” said Joe Askren, instructor in the College of Hospitality & Tourism Leadership and Director of the Culinary Innovation Lab. “There are some world-class brew houses right in our own backyard. Our college’s recent partnerships with these local businesses have added some muscle to our beer science course. Students are learning about beer production, product marketing, brew pub operations, and food pairing strategies.”

The 2015 Spring Semester Beer and Food Tasting Finale will feature student-designed menus paired with signature beers designed and brewed by students with the assistance of local breweries. Brewing partners include Darwin Brewing Company, Cigar City Brewing, Big Top Brewing Company and Green Bench Brewing Company. All proceeds benefit the College of Hospitality & Tourism Leadership at USF Sarasota-Manatee.

Tickets are $35.00 and can be purchased here. Must be 21 years or older.
