Essay Question/Topic

What does hosting the Olympic sport of “Modern Pentathlon 2014 World Cup” mean to the Sarasota and Bradenton area?

Our region has long enjoyed a worldwide reputation for its natural beauty, top-flight facilities, and unsurpassed commitment to culture and the arts. This year’s Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final offers the unique opportunity to add premier international sports competition to that list – and that’s just the beginning!

For the first time in more than four decades, one of the most elegant Olympic sports will hold its international championship on American soil.

Sarasota/Bradenton has earned the privilege of hosting the 2014 Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final, plus three more major competitions including the Olympic Trials:

  • The prestigious 2014 World Cup Final (June 5-8, 2014)
  • The 2015 World Cup Competition, Round #1 (March 2015)
  • The 2016 United States Olympic Team Trials (March 2016)
  • The 2016 World Cup Final (June 2016)

These world-class competitions offer our region the opportunity to see the world’s most complete athletes in person, along with the chance to interact with a wide array of international leaders and dignitaries. Most importantly, these games will enable us to showcase Sarasota/Bradenton to a global audience.

The best essays will be singled out and honored with a first, second, and third-place award.
