(October 2, 2012) – The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee (USFSM) will be hosting three distinct open houses for potential students interested in learning more about available programs, financial aid, scholarship opportunities and on-campus clubs and student activities.
The first is a Freshman Preview that will take place on Saturday, October 13 from 9am-noon at USFSM, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. The event is free and open to prospective freshman students and their guests. There will be entertainment, food, music and fun, along with campus personnel on hand to explain the “Freshman First” initiative, in which qualified students enrolled in the inaugural USFSM freshman class in the fall of 2013 may be awarded scholarships for their unmet tuition costs—after federal and state grants and other scholarships have been applied. A campus tour will be available, plus the opportunity to meet with student government and academic advisors who will discuss prerequisites, transcripts and other pertinent details. This is USFSM’s historic first freshman enrollment, so high school juniors and seniors and their families are encouraged to attend and learn about the opportunities.
Other open houses will include information about Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs, Certificate programs, and a brief overview of admissions processes, financial aid, and other services, from student life and leadership to career services and internships. The Open House in North Port is scheduled for Wednesday, October 17 from 5:30-7:00pm at the North Port Learning Facility of USFSM, located at 5920 Pan American Blvd. in North Port. Classes at the North Port facility are offered at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and convenient for students from the North Port, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Englewood, Venice and Arcadia areas. Classes are provided via traditional classroom, E-Learning, and video conference technologies.
The third general Open House takes place on Tuesday, October 30 from 6:00-7:30pm, again on the Sarasota campus of USFSM on Tamiami Trail.
