USF Sarasota-Manatee receives $150,000 rebate from FPL for energy efficient chiller plant

The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee received a rebate from Florida Power and Light in the amount of $150,720 for the new Central Energy Plant on campus.  The Central Energy Plant project involved upgrading the air-conditioning system from an air-cooled system similar to the ones found in most houses to a water-cooled and ice storage system designed for large facilities that consume most of their energy during the day. The project supports the efforts of USF Sarasota-Manatee to achieve a prestigious Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) certification for the campus facilities.   Pictured (L to R): Don Sayre, FPL Accounts Manager; Rae Dowling, Area Manager for External Affairs at FPL; Dr. Arthur Guilford, Regional Chancellor at USF Sarasota-Manatee; and Rick Lyttle, Director of Facilities Planning & Management at USF Sarasota-Manatee.
