USF Sarasota-Manatee professor editor-in-chief of only Hospitality Technology journal in the world

A professor at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee is now the editor-in-chief of the only journal of Hospitality and Technology in the world.

The idea for the peer-reviewed journal was initiated by Dr. Cihan Cobanoglu, Associate Professor of Hospitality Technology at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee.  Emerald, the world’s leading scholarly publisher of journals and books in business and management, picked up the idea and is will be publishing three issues per year.

The journal covers topics by hospitality management experts, authors and scholars from around the world, including credit card security breaches, hotel website quality, and how technology is used by travel agencies.

“There is a need in our field for a journal that deals with the use of technology in the hospitality industry,” said Cobanoglu.  “This journal helps to give an understanding and appreciation for technology in every business, not just hospitality.  Advancements in technology in the travel, leisure, and hospitality industries are changing the world.”

As the head of the Technology and E-Business Committee for the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA), Cobanoglu represents AHLA in President Obama’s Advisory Board for the National Strategy for Secure Online Transactions Strategy.  He is a visionary board member of Hospitality Technology magazine and editorial board member of several other hospitality publications.  His work has been featured in national and international media outlets such as BBC, NBC, ABC, CNN , Futurist Magazine, New York Times, Boston Globe and Lodging Magazine.
