USF College of Nursing offering program for Registered Nurses interested in Bachelor’s Degree

Registered Nurses interested in pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing are invited to the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee on Wednesday, May 30th to learn more about the RN to BS program offered by USF College of Nursing.  This program was developed to serve Registered Nurses and was created in collaboration with the USF College of Nursing’s clinical collaborative partners to ensure this program meets the needs of both nurses and employers.

Two information sessions will be held – the first from 4-5:30pm and the second from 7-8:30pm, both in the Selby Auditorium at USF Sarasota-Manatee, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. The Program Director and two Academic Advisors will be available to answer questions and provide information about this program.

This program allows an RN to build a degree focused on unique career needs in one of three tracks: Leadership/Management; Patient/Staff Education; or Clinical Excellence.  It is comprised of 30 nursing credit hours and prepares students for selected national certifications while providing a seamless transition into USF Nursing Master’s, PhD and DNP programs.  The program is fully web-based, allowing students to attend class when it is convenient.  Part-time students will complete the program in 5 semesters; full-time in 3 semesters.

National Magnet Hospitals, such as Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System, or those requesting national magnet status are required to have a minimum of 80% of nurses with BS degree or higher by 2020 according to new American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This change by ANCC is in support of recommendations made by the Institutes of Medicine.
