The USF System has contracted a new service that will enable all of our faculty to offer online proctoring for tests administered through Canvas. Proctorio, an online test proctoring service, has been contracted by USF and will be implemented between the fall and spring semesters, on December 16th, 2015.
Proctorio requires the use of the Google Chrome browser and will prompt the user to download the specific extension needed for Proctorio to function properly. The software is relatively intuitive and will allow the faculty member to determine the level of security needed for their specific quiz or test administered through Canvas. The video of student activity will be automatically machine-analyzed and Proctorio will generate a report for faculty, flagging moments of potential interest for faculty review.
E-Learning Services will host training sessions on Fridays during the month of November to help faculty implement Proctorio into their spring courses. No registration is required.
Faculty Training for Proctorio: B342
- Friday, November 13th, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. New session starts every hour, on the hour
- Friday, November 20th, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. New session starts every hour, on the hour
Faculty members who choose to use Proctorio will be required to add the following statement to their course syllabus: “Canvas-based tests and/or quizzes within this course may require online proctoring. Students are therefore required to have a webcam with a microphone (either USB or mounted into your computer).”
Proctorio will be a fantastic tool for students who are required to complete a proctored test for their course. They will not need to schedule a time with a testing center or pay for proctoring. Proctored tests through Proctorio will be available anytime, anywhere.
Students should have access to the following as they prepare for their test using Proctorio:
- Google Chrome Browser
- Functional webcam and microphone
- USF Student ID or Government Issued ID
- Quiet space in which to complete the test
E-Learning Services will offer training sessions during the month of January to orient students to the Proctorio software. No registration is required.
