Dr. Terry A. Osborn, Dean and Professor, College of Education at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee has been named the Executive Director of the Florida Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (FACTE).
“I appreciate the trust placed in me by the Board,” said Dr. Osborn. “I will endeavor to assist them in the important work of supporting educator preparation in the State of Florida.”
FACTE provides leadership on issues related to professional education, with primary focus on teacher education and promotes effective public policy regarding professional education, enhances and improves professional education programs at member institutions, and enhances the professional effectiveness of members.
“The position provides me the opportunity to serve all the educator preparation programs that are part of FACTE and to take part in ensuring that all of our voices are heard by policymakers and friends throughout Florida, and the nation,” Dr. Osborn said.
Dr. Osborn has served as the Dean of the College of Education at USFSM for four years, where he has developed the Center for Partnerships for Arts-Integrated Teaching (PAInT) and has led the College of Education in USF Sarasota-Manatee’s transition to a four-year university.
In addition to his work with FACTE, Dr. Osborn is an internationally-recognized scholar of critical language studies who has published 13 books and 34 articles and chapters, edits six academic book series, and was the founding co-editor of the journal Critical Inquiry in Language Studies. His scholarship has received the American Educational Studies Association Critics’ Choice Award and the Stephen Freeman Award for the best published article on language teaching techniques.
