To help inspire students to make sound career choices, USF Sarasota-Manatee checks in with local CEO’s to share their stories of success. This week, we sat down with Michael Klauber, Co-Proprietor of Michael’s On East and Michael’s Wine Cellar.

Following hospitality studies at Cornell University, Michael cut his teeth at the famed Royal Sonesta and Arnaud’s restaurant in New Orleans, then oversaw restaurant operations of his family’s historic Colony Beach Resort on Longboat Key before striking out on his own in 1987 to open Michael’s On East in Sarasota. He is co-founder of the Sarasota-Manatee Originals, a marketing collaboration with 50+ local independent restaurants, original founder of Florida Winefest and Forks & Corks Food & Wine Festival.

A lifetime techie, www.bestfood.com was the first restaurant website online in 1994. Today, he continues as a leader in innovative marketing strategies and partnerships. Residents of Downtown Sarasota, he and his wife Terri frequently lend their talents, hospitality and support to local nonprofit organizations and enjoy being part of such a thriving cultural community. He proudly sits on the boards of the Sarasota-Manatee Originals and Sarasota Crew. Michael is immediate past board chair of Visit Sarasota County and is volunteer chair for the community initiative Sarasota Bayfront 20:20.
