High School: Hazelwood West High School

Why did you choose USFSM: I choose USFSM because of the multitude of opportunities this campus has to offer, as well as the tight-knit and accepting community. USFSM allows each and every individual to feel as though they matter and are crucial to the success of the school, and that is something that is beneficial to the students, staff and faculty as a whole.

Favorite USFSM memory: Attending the Ambassadors fall retreat at the Sandcastle Resort on Lido Beach where we stayed up playing card games and binge eating until 4 a.m.

One tip for incoming students: Reach out to the staff and faculty on campus, as they are so willing to aid you on your mission to accomplish your goals. Many times, students do not take advantage of the people readily available to help them on their path. Remember that every person here is striving as a team to watch you succeed and are more than willing to lend a helping hand at any given time.

Major: Psychology/ Pre-Med
Class of: 2021
High School: Westover Comprehensive High School

Why did you choose USFSM: I loved the idea of being on a small campus with a lower student- to -faculty ratio. It allows you to get to know your professors as well as other students. In addition, I have found that this makes it easier to get involved with organizations on campus.

Favorite USFSM memory:A memory at USFSM that stands out would certainly be the carnival during USFSM week. We had our own carnival in the school parking lot with rides, games, and good food.

One tip for incoming students: Stay organized! Keep all of your work neat and maintain an agenda so you do not miss any important due dates.

Major: Biology
Class of: 2021
High School: Manatee High School

Why did you choose USFSM: I wanted to stay close to home but go to a university with small class sizes.

Favorite USFSM memory: The Bullpen is my favorite memory so far, because the majority of the clubs got together to recruit new members for their clubs and there was a lot of free stuff involved.

One tip for incoming students: Buy a planner to help stay on top of upcoming deadlines and to help you stay organized.

Christella Jasmin

Major: Biology
Class of: 2021
High School: Park Vista Community High School

Why did you choose USFSM: I chose USFSM because it was affordable, it had a wonderful Biology program and the sense of fellowship and family that it exudes.

Favorite USFSM memory: I have too many favorite USFSM memories to choose one, but if I had to, it would be my freshman orientation because I was instantly at home when I arrived and started speaking with the people there.

One tip for incoming students: Do not procrastinate, and do not be afraid to ask things of anyone. Regardless of the issue, you never know, USFSM may be more helpful than you think.

Kiarra Louis

Major: Professional & Technical Communication
Class of: 2022
High School: Southeast High School

Why did you choose USFSM: I chose USFSM because the small class sizes were very appealing to me. Each time I toured the campus, I was able to envision myself in the classrooms. Being in a comfortable and intimate learning environment was important to me because I did not want to be another faceless student sitting in a throng of other students. Instead, I craved close connections with my fellow students and with my professors. USFSM offered both of these things and more for an affordable price!

Favorite USFSM memory: Attending the Week of Welcome Student, Staff, & Facul-tea party is my favorite memory. The first week of Univerisity can be intimidating as a first-year student but during that event, I truly felt welcomed and part of the USFSM family despite being a newcomer.

One tip for incoming students: As the old adage goes, “grab the bull by its horns”. USFSM offers an array of academic and professional opportunities during the school year. However, it is up to you to take advantage of them. Although it may appear intimidating to put yourself out there, it is worth effort. The benefits to your personal growth are both eye-opening and astounding!

Why did you choose USFSM: The location was great for me, they offer a major that suits my many career options, class/campus size is amazing to build strong relationships with peers and professors and the tuition is fantastic.

Favorite USFSM memory: My orientation day was incredible

One tip for incoming students: Don't be afraid to attend the various events that happened during the year.

One funny/interesting thing about yourself: I love reading a lot of books and end up buying books every time I go to my local thrift stores.

Abbie Reese

Major: Elementary Education
Class of: 2021
High School: Lakewood Ranch High School

Why did you choose USFSM:  When I graduated high school, I was not ready to move out and into a large university. USFSM is a commuter university with a private school feel, making it the perfect fit for me. I love that I can go to school and then come home at night, while still attending a University.

Favorite USFSM memory: My favorite USFSM memory was at Freshman Orientation! It was fun to meet new people and participate in team building exercises. I did the bottle flip in front of everyone in the orientation, my friends yelled, and everyone clapped! It was hilarious.

One tip for incoming students: Get involved in your school if you are able to! I was not very involved in my high school, but I decided to change that while attending university. By getting involved here at USFSM, I have grown a great deal as a person. I have met lots of people and have really enjoyed myself.

Tho Van

Major: Biology
Class of: 2020
High School: Venice High School

Why did you choose USFSM: I choose USFSM because of the small student population. This allows students and professors to connect with each other at a whole new level. In addition, I can live with my parents, which saves thousands of dollars. There are also many opportunities for me to grow as a person and student.

Favorite USFSM memory: I have a lot of fun and exciting memories at USFSM. However, my favorite memory would be going to Adventure Island and spending time with other USFSM students. Although it was raining, I created many memories with other USFSM students and took our bond to a different level.

One tip for incoming student: Be as involved with school as possible. There are many events on our campus and I would recommend to attend all of them. This will allow you to create new connections, experience new adventures, and relax from your studies.
