Dr. Jane Govoni is the ESOL Coordinator in the School of Education and an Instructor in Spanish in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). She has taught Spanish to middle, high school, and college students, and has trained pre-service teachers in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for many years. She has written several books, including Preparing the Way: Teaching English Learners (ELs) in the Pre-K-12 classroom (Ed.) (2018).

She has served on national and state education boards and was recognized as an outstanding educator in Florida in receiving the Mary L. Collins Award from the Florida Association of Teacher Educators. In addition, she received the Irving Wershow Award from the Florida Foreign Language Association for teacher excellence and leadership. She was trained as a trainer-of-trainers for WIDA CLIMBS (Content and Language Integration as a Means of Bridging Success) to support the use of research-based approaches and WIDA resources.

Dr. Govoni serves as the Executive Secretary of the Southeastern Regional Association of Teacher Educators (SRATE) which includes 14 states with a focus on teacher preparation. At the national level, she is a former board member of the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) and currently continues to serve on national committees. She reviews ESOL accreditation for teacher preparation programs at both state and national (CAEP) levels.
