The College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences (CLASS) is an interdisciplinary community of scholars bound by a shared commitment to the study of human ideas and experience, critical inquiry, creative expression and open discourse.
Whether we are advancing our field of research with a scholarly publication, passing knowledge down to others through teaching, or using that knowledge to improve the community, we make sure our students graduate with the skills necessary to thrive as individuals, scholars and professionals. Degrees & Programs
Each term, our course offerings and the diversity of our undergraduate and graduate programs are designed to fulfill the needs of our students. Graduates of programs in the School of Education, the Department of Social Sciences and the Department of Liberal Arts are well-prepared for employment or further academic study.
School of Education
USFSM’s School of Education is a trailblazer in regional, national and international education, particularly undergraduate and graduate teacher education and educational leadership. The School’s programs are taking a powerful and innovative direction by connecting the science of education to the inspiration and lessons that are found in the arts.
Two ways our students expand their academic knowledge and expertise is through the Honors Program and the Capstone Project. The Honors Program is open to qualified students of any major who wish to add value to their undergraduate credentials. In the final semester of all Arts and Sciences degree programs, students take a capstone course in which they apply and synthesize all their learning as they produce and present mature work in the discipline.
Faculty & Staff
We are an interdisciplinary faculty in more than 15 academic disciplines, bound by a shared commitment to the study of human ideas and experience, critical inquiry, creative expression and open discourse. Because of our small classes, students receive personalized attention that fosters their individual growth and success.
