The USF System operates within the USF Board of Trustees governance structure. The USF BOT appoints the USF System President, the Chief Executive Officer, who in turn appoints the Regional Chancellors of the member institutions. The President and other System Officers are advised by four USF System Advisory Councils and the USF System Faculty Council, the principal, representative faculty governance body for the System.
As Chief Executive Officer of the USF System, Judy Genshaft oversees a system serving more than 47,000 students at two institutions, including a major academic medical center, and two regional campuses. Dr. Genshaft is responsible for the management of all units of the USF System, a $1.8 billion operating budget that includes $380.4 million in sponsored research funding, and relations with the Board of Trustees, the Board of Governors, the State Board of Education, the Florida Legislature and other state agencies, as well as Congress and federal agencies.
Dr. Sandra Stone was named Regional Chancellor of USF Sarasota-Manatee on September 26, 2014, by USF System President Dr. Judy Genshaft.
Prior to becoming USFSM’s regional chancellor, Dr. Stone worked at Dalton State College in Georgia, where she currently served as vice president for academic affairs, overseeing a myriad of academic and outreach areas for the Northwest Georgia institution. Her prior experience ranges across academia, state and federal government and sponsored research groups.
The Senior Leadership is the on-campus team at USF Sarasota-Manatee that comprises the Regional Chancellor, three Regional Vice Chancellors and two Assistant Vice Presidents.
The USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus board is a group of community leaders who serve terms of four years. The board is responsible for guiding the overall mission and plan of the regional campus while serving as USFSM advocates to the community.
The CLC’s charge is to advise the USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus Board and management team about program and service priorities, and advocate and present information on campus priorities to the community and elected officials. The council has four committees: Community Affairs, Executive, Program, and Public Advocacy.
The USF Board of Trustees was created in 2001 and is responsible for cost-effective policy decisions appropriate to the system mission and the implementation and maintenance of high quality education programs within the laws and rules of the State.
The Academic and Student Affairs Council at USF Sarasota-Manatee consists of the Regional Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, the four College Deans, the Associate Directors and Directors for Academic and Student Affairs, and the Faculty Senate President and Vice President. The Academic and Student Affairs Council is responsible for decision-making with regards to academics and the welfare of students and faculty.
USF Sarasota-Manatee is a member of the Florida State University System (SUS). The SUS comprises 12 state universities and operates under the control of the Board of Governors.
The Board of Governors is made up of seventeen members, fourteen of whom are appointed by the Florida Governor and confirmed by the Florida Senate for a term of seven years. The remaining members include the Chair of the Advisory Council of Faculty Senates, the Commissioner of Education, and the Chair of the Florida Student Association. The Board oversees the operation and management of the Florida public university system’s twelve institutions.
